Verdant Shadows begins!

My new webcomic, Verdant Shadows, has begun today with the cover up on the website! It'll be updating on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with hopefully few breaks – although if I should run out of buffer and need to pause for any reason, I'll make an announcement about it.

My new webcomic, Verdant Shadows, has begun today with the cover up on the website! It'll be updating on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with hopefully few breaks – although if I should run out of buffer and need to pause for any reason, I'll make an announcement about it.

I've spent some time refining the process I'm using for this comic, which is very different from the one that I used for Corner the Maze and have gone into some detail on previously (parts one, two, and three). I'll go into more detail on that in a post some time later this year, but I'm working entirely digitally on this comic, and that has offered a lot of advantages – such as being able to get my word bubbles into the correct places before I start inking things – but has also had a steep learning curve in terms of coloring. That and spending most of the last year moving are why this took much later than expected to get going.

My new setup for comics work

It also got rather chilly in the corner of the room I work on comics in during the coldest parts of winter, so I paused work extra long over the holidays this year for that reason. But my overall setup is much better now in my new house! When I'd set up digitally in my old room I wasn't able to reach the keyboard at the same time I was working on my screen tablet, and it turns out my laptop isn't quite up to powering it either, which caused some stuttering issues... and due in large part to that, I've had to redo my inks for the first chapter as I go.

An in-progress look at the first page

I expect the process to speed up significantly once I start on chapter two, where I won't have to basically ink everything twice, and have already figured out my coloring process (although that could definitely still use refinement).
